The Wrestler

Last night we went to see The Wrestler starring Mickey Rourke. Not knowing much about Mickey Rourke, other than he used to be a pretty boy who sacrificed his beautiful face to become a boxer and that he was the huge dude in Sin City, I was leery as to whether I would enjoy the movie. I knew that it was the hot shit on the award circuit and that it had to be good but my vote was to see Revoluntionary Road. Needless to say, I loved it. Mickey Rourke was amazing in it. I think all the shitty movies he has made in the past and the way he fucked his face up boxing all lead up to him being amazing as Randy the Ram. There is so much for a guy to like in this movie. We all know that every dude watched wrestling as a kid and that they all love strippers as adults, so it makes perfect sense that this movie would do well, at least with people who have good taste in movies. I think that chicks will dig it because the charactors were so well cast and it was executed so well that in our sick female minds, we read it like a lifetime movie. Sad lonely, washed up wrestler tries to befriend a single, stripper mom all while trying to reclaim his past fame, only to suffer a debilitating heart attack which doesn't even save the tattered relationship with the daughter he abandoned as a child all the while he has horrible, god awful extentsions!! Oh, my heart strings were pulled, no, yanked to the point where you don't care that he is a fuck up, you just feel bad for him. All and all, it was so worth the $10.00 ticket.
